This one was a full gut-and-rebuild situation. We stripped everything down to the deck, replaced damaged decking where it was needed, and built the whole system back up from scratch. That's what a proper tear-off looks like - no shortcuts, no layovers, no hiding old problems under new shingles.
We went with GAF HDZ shingles in Fox Hollow Gray for this Cincinnati home. It's a solid architectural shingle with a dimensional look and strong weather resistance. The color works really well against the brick exterior - clean, sharp, and built to hold up through Ohio seasons without issue.
One of the details we take seriously on every job is the chimney. Flashing is one of the most common leak sources on any roof, and it's usually the first thing to go ignored. Here, we installed fresh chimney flashing all the way around - step flashing on the sides, counter flashing set into the brick mortar joints, and a proper saddle at the front. When it's done right, water has nowhere to go but off the roof.
The ridge vent runs clean and straight across the peak - that's not just a cosmetic thing. Proper attic ventilation keeps heat and moisture from building up under the deck, which is one of the biggest factors in how long a roof actually lasts. We pay attention to the stuff most people never think about, because it all adds up.
This is exactly what residential roofing services should look like start to finish. From the tear-off to the final flashing detail, every layer of this system was installed with the next 20-plus years in mind. That's the standard we hold ourselves to on every Cincinnati roof we touch.
