Sometimes a roof looks perfectly fine from the curb. No obvious missing shingles, no sagging, nothing that jumps out at you. But looks can be deceiving - and that's exactly what we found on this one.
Once we got up on the roof, the story changed fast. The shingle seals had failed. That's the kind of problem that doesn't show up until water starts finding its way in, and by then, you're dealing with a lot more than just shingles. A small leak is never really a small problem. It's a warning that the whole system has started to break down.
We did a complete tear-off - everything came off down to the deck. From there, we installed HDZ Charcoal shingles, which are a serious upgrade in both durability and appearance. The charcoal finish ties in cleanly with the gray siding on this house, and the hip roof design means every angle needed to be done right. No shortcuts.
We also addressed the ventilation. A lot of roofers skip this part or treat it as an afterthought. We don't. Proper attic ventilation keeps heat and moisture from building up under the deck, which is one of the biggest factors in how long a roof actually lasts. Getting that right is just as important as the shingles themselves.
If something feels off with your roof - a soft spot, a small drip, higher energy bills - that's worth paying attention to. The longer you wait, the more it costs to fix.
