Here's what we were working with on this ranch home in the Candlewood Lake community - dark, weathered siding that had seen better days. The old material was stripped all the way back to the sheathing, giving us a clean slate to work with. That's the right way to do it. No shortcuts, no covering up problems.

Once the old siding was off, we wrapped the house properly before a single panel of new vinyl went up. That housewrap layer matters a lot - it's what keeps moisture from working its way into the wall system behind the siding. Most homeowners never think about what's behind the siding, but that's actually where the long-term durability is won or lost.

We went with Norandex Woodsman Select vinyl in Steel Blue paired with crisp white trim. The color combo does a lot of heavy lifting here. The Steel Blue is cool and clean without feeling cold, and the white trim around every window frame gives the whole front of the house a sharp, finished look. Toss in the dark shutters and you've got a home that genuinely stands out on the street.

From the before to the after, it's a night-and-day difference. What was once a flat, tired-looking exterior now has real character and curb appeal. And beyond looks, the homeowner now has a low-maintenance exterior that won't need painting, won't rot, and holds up well through harsh winters and wet springs alike. That's the practical win that makes vinyl siding such a popular choice.

Every corner, window wrap, and trim piece has to be cut and fitted right for the job to look good long-term. Sloppy trim work is usually what gives vinyl a bad reputation - but when it's done clean, the results speak for themselves. This one came out exactly how it should.
